Dušan Vlahovic scored the only goal of the game to give Juventus a 1-0 win over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The win means Juventus now have six points from two games as they head into the international break. They also remain unbeaten in league matches whenever Vlahovic has scored, with 25 wins and 11 draws.
After both teams kept clean sheets in their opening Serie A matches, it wasn’t too surprising to see the first half end goalless.
Juventus started with more attacking intent, but couldn’t break through Genoa’s defence. In the 26th minute, Genoa nearly took the lead when Mikael Egill Ellertsson got on the end of a pullback inside the box, but his shot was weak and easily saved.
As the first half went on, Juventus created better chances. Federico Gatti forced a sharp save from Nicola Leali, who managed to push the ball out for a corner. Soon after, Jonathan David missed a great chance when he fired over the bar from close range.
The second half began much like the first. Ellertsson had another shot blocked inside the box. Later, Khéphren Thuram missed a big chance, firing wide after receiving the ball on the counter-attack. Nicolae Stanciu also went close with a header over the bar.
The match finally opened up, and Juventus took full advantage. In the 73rd minute, Vlahovic scored with a close-range header after a corner taken by Filip Kostic. It was Vlahovic’s second goal in two league games this season.
Genoa found it hard to respond after that. Vlahovic could have added a second goal five minutes from time, but he took too long to shoot and his effort was blocked.
There was one final moment of drama when Genoa’s Caleb Ekuban forced a great save from Michele Di Gregorio with the last kick of the match. But the whistle blew right after, sealing the win for Juventus.
Juventus now join several other clubs with a perfect record. Genoa, however, will be disappointed after wasting some good chances and still haven’t beaten Juventus since May 2022.
