Christian Pulisic maintained his impressive start to the season as 10-man AC Milan battled to a crucial win over Napoli, moving top of Serie A.
The former Chelsea winger created Alexis Saelemaekers’ opener with a surging run down the left in the third minute, before adding Milan’s second himself just after the half-hour mark.
Napoli were handed a lifeline when Milan full-back Pervis Estupiñán was dismissed for dragging back Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who was poised to slot into an empty net. Initially shown a yellow card, the decision was upgraded to red after a VAR review.
Kevin De Bruyne converted the resulting penalty to cut the deficit, but despite their numerical advantage, Antonio Conte’s men were unable to find an equaliser.
The victory lifts Massimiliano Allegri’s side above Napoli—who suffered their first league defeat of the campaign—on goal difference.
Roma also sit level with the leaders on 12 points from five matches, after strikes from Artem Dovbyk and Matías Soulé sealed a 2-0 win against Hellas Verona.
