AC Milan are working on a deal to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea in the final days of the window, with multiple outlets indicating that personal terms are close and a permanent bid in the €30–40m range is under discussion.
Reports in Italy and France say the Rossoneri have moved ahead of several rivals after positive talks with the player’s camp over a long-term contract, while Chelsea are open to a straight sale rather than a loan. Milan sources also brief that the club’s focus has shifted away from Dušan Vlahović given the cost of his wages.
While Nkunku profiles primarily as a second striker or hybrid forward, Milan are simultaneously pursuing a classic No. 9. Artem Dovbyk has emerged as a live option, with Roma willing to negotiate. A proposed loan to Villarreal has stalled over the formula, and Milan have explored a separate route should Roma decide to cash in. The Ukrainian’s situation remains fluid, but he is understood to be available if the right offer arrives.
Outgoings are helping to clear space. Atalanta are close to meeting Milan’s €25m valuation for Yunus Musah, with talks accelerating this week. Fulham have advanced discussions to sign Samuel Chukwueze, with an asking price of around €25m. Full-back Álex Jiménez is in negotiations over a loan move to Como with an option to buy, subject to Real Madrid’s buy-back protections. None of the three deals is yet over the line, but all are well developed.
This flurry comes under a revamped hierarchy at San Siro. Massimiliano Allegri returned as head coach at the end of May and has asked for immediate reinforcements after an opening-day defeat. Former Lazio executive Igli Tare was appointed sporting director earlier in the summer to lead recruitment. Their combined brief is to push Milan back into the top four while refreshing an attack that has been retooled repeatedly over the past 18 months.
If Milan can land Nkunku and add a recognised centre-forward before the deadline, Allegri would have a more balanced front line to pair with Luka Modrić’s supply line and Rafael Leão’s wing threat once fit. The margin for error is thin, but the market momentum is clearly towards at least one major attacking arrival and several exits to fund it.
