Dumfries undergoes surgery and changes agent as Inter future hangs in the balance

Denzel Dumfries’ future at Inter appears increasingly uncertain after the Dutch wing-back underwent ankle surgery and confirmed a change of agent.

Inter announced that Dumfries had a stabilisation procedure on his left ankle at the Fortius Clinic in London, following ongoing discomfort suffered during the match against Lazio on 9 November. The operation is expected to rule him out for between two and three months.

“The surgery went well. It has been a tough month full of emotions, but the worst is behind me,” Dumfries wrote on social media. “Now my full focus is on recovery and returning to the pitch as soon as possible.”

Beyond the injury, doubts persist regarding his long-term future in Milan. Dumfries has changed agent once again, moving from Jorge Mendes to Ali Barat, a step widely interpreted as a signal that a transfer could be on the horizon. Last summer, a release clause of around €25 million raised expectations of a possible departure, though no move materialised.

With Dumfries sidelined, Inter may return to the transfer market in January, either for a short-term solution or by bringing forward a planned summer investment. The club has been monitoring several right-sided options, including Rafik Belghali, Brooke Norton Cuffy and Idrissa Toure, with the Pisa midfielder currently seen as the most accessible option.

Meanwhile, Davide Frattesi could also be on the move. The midfielder has struggled for regular minutes and could be placed on the market in January, with Inter reportedly valuing him at around €30 million. Interest is reportedly coming from Newcastle, Roma, Napoli, and Juventus.

The coming weeks could therefore prove decisive for Inter, as they weigh up both immediate squad needs and major decisions for the future.
