AS Roma continued their strong start to the Serie A campaign with a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, a result that sends the Giallorossi to the top of the table.
After a quiet opening spell, the match burst into life in the 14th minute when Moise Kean put Fiorentina ahead with a superb strike from over 20 yards, notching his 20th goal in Serie A since joining La Viola in 2024. However, Roma quickly responded. Matias Soule fired in a brilliant equaliser from just outside the area midway through the first half, his third goal of the season.
Buoyed by the equaliser, Roma completed the turnaround just moments later. Bryan Cristante met a Soule corner at the near post and glanced his header past the goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead.
Fiorentina almost levelled before the break, with Kean again going close, this time striking the post from the edge of the box. Despite their pressure, the hosts couldn’t find a way through before the half-time whistle.
The second half lacked the same intensity, with few clear chances for either side in the early stages. Fiorentina did come close to an equaliser in the 74th minute, when Roberto Piccoli’s powerful long-range effort crashed off the crossbar. Then, in the final minutes, Robin Gosens missed a golden opportunity, firing wide from six yards with the goal gaping.
Roma held on for the win, making it five victories in their first six Serie A matches. Despite a less convincing second-half display, manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be pleased with his team’s resilience and position at the top of the league.
In contrast, Fiorentina’s disappointing form continues. Still searching for their first league win, they remain near the relegation zone.
