Bologna beat Torino to keep pace for European qualification

Dan Ndoye’s brace helped Bologna extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches, as they came from behind to win 3-2 against Torino in Serie A.

Heavy rain throughout the afternoon in Northern Italy almost caused the match to be called off, but the game went ahead despite standing water on the pitch. The poor conditions didn’t seem to affect either team, though, and Torino had the first real chance through Tommaso Pobega, whose powerful shot from 20 yards was saved. A penalty, initially awarded for a foul on Ndoye by Karol Linetty, was overturned after VAR review, but Bologna took the lead in the 20th minute when Ndoye squeezed the ball in from a tight angle after a perfect pass from Pobega.

The goal seemed to wake up Torino, who had a chance from Ché Adams saved, and another opportunity missed when Yann Karamoh slipped on the wet pitch as he ran onto Adams’ pass. The equaliser came soon after, with Nikola Vlašić spinning in the box and placing the ball into the top corner following a counter-attack. This was the first goal Bologna had conceded in over five hours of play, and once they were breached, they looked vulnerable.

Adams missed another big chance before half-time, but after the break, Bologna took control. Ndoye had a shot saved by Vanja Milinković-Savić, then missed a header from a deep cross. These missed chances proved costly, as Torino went ahead just after the hour mark. Elif Elmas brilliantly dodged a tackle in the box and delicately chipped the ball over the defender before scoring.

The game wasn’t over yet, though. Bologna were awarded a penalty when Pobega was fouled in the area, and Ndoye calmly converted into the bottom corner to level the score. Ndoye, aiming for his first career hat-trick, soon missed a chance, while Adams had a powerful shot tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Torino, aiming for their first six-match unbeaten run away from home since May 2023, had few chances. But Bologna broke their hearts late on when Remo Freuler missed a great opportunity, and Cristiano Biraghi accidentally put the ball into his own net after a blocked shot from Santiago Castro. That own goal sealed the win for Bologna, who earned their sixth home victory of the season.
