The drastic decision that Schreuder must be fired was made by the Dutch club.
Since the 1964/1965 playing season, it has not happened that Ajax did not triumph in any of the 7 consecutive games of the Dutch Eredivisie until the current season of 2022/2023.
Someone has to pay the guild for such a failure, and as it usually happens, this time the consequences will be borne by the club’s coach Alfred Schreuder. Ajax officially announced on the state networks that the coach has been dismissed.
On the club’s official website, it was announced: Ajax immediately dismissed Alfredo Schreuder. The coaching contract was valid until June 30, 2024, but will now be terminated immediately. Many lost points and underdevelopment of the team are the main reasons for this decision. The management of the club no longer has confidence in further cooperation. Cooperation with assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach will also be terminated”.
Edwin van der Sar, executive director of the club, said the following: “It is a painful decision, but also a necessary one. After a good start to the season, we lost an unnecessary number of points. And the match was unstable. The World Cup meant an early and long winter break. It kept us confident that we could change things and improve them. In recent weeks, it has become increasingly clear that the flow cannot be reversed, and we believe that despite numerous transfers, he had at his disposal a strong and championship-worthy team. He has lost a lot of points in recent weeks and unfortunately, we haven’t seen any progress”.
