Manchester United Eyeing Brentford's Rico Henry with £35 Million Price Tag

Manchester United’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has led them to Brentford’s dependable left-back, Rico Henry. The Red Devils have reportedly been quoted a potential price of around £35 million for the 26-year-old, as they look to bolster their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.

United’s interest in Henry was piqued in the final stages of the recent transfer window, with the club actively seeking a new left-back option, especially given injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. The situation led to the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon to provide cover.

Both Shaw and Malacia are expected to return to action in the coming months, but with a break clause in Reguilon’s loan deal, his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, possibly leading to a renewed pursuit of Rico Henry.

Reports suggest that Brentford, currently competing in the Premier League, would consider an offer in the vicinity of £35 million for their reliable defender. Henry, who joined the Bees from Walsall in 2016, has established himself as a dependable performer in the English top flight.

Henry boasts an impressive track record, having made over 200 appearances for Brentford in all competitions, contributing five goals and 11 assists along the way. In the Premier League, he has earned 75 caps, with three goals and three assists to his name. His versatility has seen him excel in both the Championship and League One.

With three years remaining on his current contract, plus a one-year option, Brentford holds a strong position in any potential transfer negotiations.

Despite ongoing uncertainties surrounding the club’s ownership, Manchester United appears to be planning ahead for next summer’s transfer window. Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on securing four new signings, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s rising star, Evan Ferguson, topping the list. Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong are also on the radar, as well as the addition of a central midfielder in preparation for the 2024-25 campaign.

The club is set to resume Premier League action after the international break, facing Brighton in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
