An incredible scandal in the women’s football team of Spain. Almost the entire team demanded the dismissal of Jorge Vilda’s coach, and instead of theirs, the Federation sided with the coach and said that Spain is “ready to play with younger and less experienced members of the team.”
As many as 15 angry players submitted a request to the Spanish Football Association, in which they stated that they will stop playing for the national team due to impaired health and emotional state if Vilda is not removed from office.
Although they did not state the exact reasons for the dismissal, sources close to the national team claim that Vilda allegedly acted extremely unfairly towards the injured soccer players and that the atmosphere in the locker room is toxic. In the end, the coach’s training methods as well as the selection of players who will appear in the starting 11 were also targeted for criticism.
Surprisingly, in response, the Association told the footballers that their behavior went unnoticed and threatened to expel them from the national team.
– If we have to play with younger soccer players, so be it. This has never happened before and the situation is very serious. The Vilda coach wants to continue, as do we all. As for the players who did not want to perform, no one is forcing them – said Ana Alvarez, head of the women’s football department in the Spanish Federation.
Alvarez also stated that the biggest star of the national team, Alexia Putellas, winner of the Ballon d’Or, is not among the 15 players who submitted the petition.
Let’s remind you, as a coach, Vilda led the Spanish team to the quarter-finals of this year’s European Championship, where after extra time his team was defeated by England, who later won the title.
