Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will start from pole position in the upcoming Formula One race for the Belgian Grand Prix, despite the fact that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was the fastest in qualifying and will start the race from 15th due to a penalty.
Verstappen was the fastest in qualifying with a time of 1:43.665, with Sainz second by 0.632 seconds.
Sainz was close to winning, but the Red Bull driver was still faster.
The Dutchman was penalized for engine changes, so he will start tomorrow’s race from 15th place. Apart from him, Charles Leclerc from Ferrari, Lando Norris from McLaren, Esteban Ocon from Alpino, Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher from Haas also received penalties for the same reason. Because of those penalties, there was a shift in the qualifying position for tomorrow’s race.
Sergio Perez from Red Bull (1:44.462) will start from the second position, and Fernando Alonso from Alpino, who was sixth in qualifying, will start from the third position.
After they took seventh and eighth places in qualifying, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will start the race from fourth place and his teammate George Russell from fifth place.
McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo will start sixth, and Alfa Tauri’s Pierre Gasly will start eighth.
Aston Martin drivers Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel will start the race from the ninth and 10th positions, while Nicolas Latifi from Williams will start in the 11th position.
Behind him will be Kevin Magnussen from Haas, Yuki Tsunoda from Alfa Tauri, Valtteri Bottas from Alfa Romeo, Verstappen from Red Bull, Leclerc from Ferrari, Ocon from Alpino, Norris from McLanrae, and Joe Guanyu from Alfa Romeo, while from last place, Haas driver Mick Schumacher will start.
The Formula 1 race for the Belgian Grand Prix takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m.
