Brazilian football legend Pele is “gradually recovering”, his doctors announced today.
Pele (82) was hospitalized last week for treatment of a respiratory infection aggravated by the coronavirus. Pele is expected to leave the hospital once he has fully recovered from the infection.
– Pele has stable vital signs, he is conscious and without new complications – the Albert Einstein Hospital said in a statement.
Pele, a three-time World Cup winner, is also battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
The image of a young Pele celebrating goals and lifting trophies with the Brazilian national team appeared yesterday on the shirts and flags worn by fans before and during the World Cup match against South Korea.
Pele said that he will watch the game from the hospital. Brazil beat South Korea 4:1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
