The selector of the Morocco, Valid Regragui, said that his team made history by reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup today and that they deserved the victory against Spain.
– We fought from the very beginning until the end. We made the Moroccan people happy and wrote the history of Moroccan football with this victory. We deserved this, and our fans helped us. They united us in our fight – said Regragui.
Morocco qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the first time in history, after beating Spain 3:0 after penalty kicks. After the regular part and overtime it was 0:0.
Regragui is the first African coach who led the national team to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Moroccan representative Javad El Jamiq said that the selector had well prepared the team, which made a historic success.
– We achieved a great result for Arab and African football. Our coach made a great preparation for this match. He filled us with confidence, which is necessary in such a big game and against a respectable opponent. We had great morale throughout the game. We knew how Spain plays, and after all I have to say that they didn’t create many dangerous chances for us in front of our goal – he stated.
Morocco is the fourth African team to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.
In the quarter-finals, Morocco will play against the winner of tonight’s match between Portugal and Switzerland.
