Roma coach Jose Mourinho was visibly upset at the press conference because of the attitude of some fans and journalists towards his team.
In the 1:0 victory over Verona, Roma performed without the injured Dybala and Pellegrini, and Tammy Abraham left the field after only fifteen minutes because he was hit in the eye.
After the match, Mourinho gathered his team in a team hug on the pitch and gave a speech there, instead of in the dressing room.
“I congratulated everyone who won, and it was all of them! Team spirit, incredible sacrifice and a very good game against Verona, which is good at spoiling the opponent’s game,” said Mourinho and added:
“Karsdorp hasn’t played for more than two months, Spinazzola is coming back after an injury, Bove played on a plastic pitch last season, Belotti only played here and there, Solbaken is just getting to know our team tactically, El Shaarawy hasn’t played two consecutive games for years, and now he plays four or five in a row until he is completely exhausted… Zalewski plays right and left, and the attackers also change positions. I think people don’t recognize how much this team deserves”.
Then he personally addressed the present journalists.
“You from the media are not helping either. Others are phenomena, and we won because we were lucky or we scored a goal from stoppage time. I’m old, I’m 60 years old and have many trophies, I don’t need nice words, but these guys need them, they need praise. I’m not here to criticize anyone, the fans can criticize me as a coach, but I have to protect my players, they deserve more”, concluded Roma’s coach.
Roma is currently third in the Serie A table with 44 points, three less than Inter and 18 less than Napoli.
