Manchester City have confirmed the signing of England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, completing a high profile transfer for the Palace captain.
The 25 year old centre back had been close to a move to Liverpool during the summer, but that deal did not materialise. He has now joined Manchester City as the club looks to strengthen its defensive options during a period affected by injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
City manager Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Guehi can adapt quickly and provide stability at the back as the team continues its Premier League campaign. The England international brings significant top flight experience, having been a regular starter and leader at Crystal Palace.
Guehi’s departure represents a setback for Palace, who recently won the FA Cup. The club is also preparing for change off the pitch, with manager Oliver Glasner confirming earlier this week that he will leave his position at the end of the season.
Speaking after completing the move, Guehi said that he felt Manchester City was the right environment for his development. He explained that his aim was to improve further as a player and contribute positively to the team.

The defender also spoke about his relationship with several of his new team mates from international duty, including Phil Foden and John Stones. Guehi highlighted Stones as an important influence, describing him as a senior figure who has supported him during time spent with the England squad. He added that he was pleased to have the opportunity to play alongside him at club level.
Manchester City director Hugo Viana welcomed the signing, stating that Guehi has been one of the strongest defenders in English football in recent seasons. He added that the club believes it has secured a player with leadership qualities, professionalism and a strong desire to continue improving.
Guehi began his career in the Chelsea academy before gaining valuable experience during a loan spell at Swansea City. He later joined Crystal Palace on a permanent basis, where he established himself as a key figure and went on to captain the side to FA Cup and Community Shield success in 2025.
The move marks the next step in Guehi’s career as he joins the reigning Premier League champions in pursuit of further domestic and European honours.
