As a fully independent media platform, maltasport.mt remains committed to responsible, fair, and transparent journalism. In line with the Media and Defamation Act (CAP 579), we are publishing the Malta Football Association’s (MFA) right of reply to the article titled “Two weights, two measures”: Antvin Monseigneur slams MFA call for volunteer photographers, published on 23 June 2025.
We would like to clarify that the right of reply was submitted directly to Maltasport and included official documentation in both English and Maltese. A previous version of this article incorrectly implied that the statement had been communicated via our commercial partner. We acknowledge the oversight and are happy to correct the record.
Maltasport is publishing the statement in good faith and in line with our commitment to open dialogue and the right to respond.
The Malta Football Association stated that the article in question misrepresented key facts and was published without first seeking clarification.
The MFA explained that its recent call for volunteer photographers was intended to provide opportunities for individuals seeking experience in sports photography, and not to replace professional photographers. The Association added that such initiatives are in line with practices seen in other international sporting bodies, aimed at supporting community development and skills-building.
Regarding financial matters, the MFA clarified that the €11.7 million figure mentioned in the article reflects total expenditure for 2024, not salary costs. Of that amount, €4.31 million was attributed specifically to wages and staff costs.
The MFA also noted that the President and General Secretary’s attendance at the FIFA Club World Cup in Miami was fully funded by FIFA, and not from the Association’s own financial resources.
Editorial Note from Maltasport
We thank the Malta Football Association for exercising its right of reply.
To clarify for our readers:
The original article was based entirely on public statements made by journalist Antvin Monseigneur on his personal social media platform.
The article directly quoted Mr Monseigneur’s post and did not express editorial opinion, nor did it present any allegations of wrongdoing.
The reference to the MFA’s €11.7 million expenditure was sourced from the MFA’s own audited financial report (page 8) and was only cited in the context of Mr Monseigneur’s remarks.
Maltasport stands behind its journalist, Christopher Francalanza, whose reporting was accurate and professional. No MFA comment was sought as the article was focused on a public reaction already available in the public domain.
With the MFA’s response now published in full, we consider the matter closed.
