Liverpool have emerged as serious contenders in the race to sign Victor Osimhen, with reports in Italy suggesting the Premier League champions are preparing a high-profile offer involving Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa to secure the Nigerian striker from Napoli.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is one of the most sought-after players in this summer’s transfer market. Despite receiving lucrative proposals from Saudi Arabia, including an approach from Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal, the forward has reportedly turned them all down. Al Hilal are believed to have come closest to meeting Osimhen’s €75 million release clause, set by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Juventus have long been linked with the striker, but any move appears to be on hold due to the uncertain future of Dusan Vlahovic, whose situation is reportedly stalling the club’s transfer strategy.
Liverpool have stepped into the frame with a bold plan to lower or offset Osimhen’s buyout clause. The English champions are reportedly willing to offer both Nunez, who has previously been linked with a move to Napoli, and Chiesa, in a deal that could significantly reduce the cash component required to activate the clause. While the proposal is being taken seriously in Naples, club officials are believed to favour a move abroad for Osimhen and are still seeking a small financial top-up as part of the package.
Speaking to Nigerian broadcaster Daddy Freeze on YouTube, Osimhen commented on the swirling speculation regarding his future.
“You know, this is what happens when the season ends and the transfer talks begin,” he said. “There are many clubs who want me, but at the moment, I am focused on enjoying my holidays. As I relax, I also reflect on my season with Galatasaray, watch the goals I scored, review my mistakes. That has really helped me grow, both as a footballer and as a man.”
With clubs across Europe circling and Napoli weighing their options, the summer transfer saga surrounding Osimhen appears to be just getting started.
