Milan football player Rafael Leao asked for a big salary increase during negotiations on a new contract, Italian media reported today.
Leao asked for an annual salary of 7.5 million euros and a bonus of around two million, “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported.
That would be a big increase in salary, as the Portuguese footballer now earns around 1.8 million euros per season.
Gazzetta reported that technical and sports directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara spoke with the footballer and his family, but that they were not in direct contact with his manager.
Leao’s contract with Milan expires at the end of the 2023/2024 season, and negotiations on the continuation of cooperation have been ongoing since the beginning of this year.
The buyout clause in the contract, which amounts to 150 million euros, could be a problem in the negotiations, as the footballer wants it reduced.
Italian media reported in January that Lea’s representatives asked for the clause to be reduced to 80 million euros, which would facilitate the departure of the Portuguese footballer from San Siro.
