Robert Lewandowski has played down speculation surrounding his future at Barcelona, insisting there is no rush to decide as he approaches the final months of his contract.
The Polish striker, who will turn 37 next year, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season unless an extension is agreed. Lewandowski currently earns around €20 million net per year, but speaking in an interview with Polish journalist Bogdan Rymanowski on YouTube, he dismissed suggestions that his future hinges on a major salary cut.
“There is still time to decide. I do not feel any pressure and at the moment I do not even know which path I will take,” Lewandowski said. “It is not about reducing my salary by half. The decision will depend on what the club wants and what I believe is best for me.”
Lewandowski confirmed that he is not discussing interest from other clubs with Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, stressing that any decision will be based on the club’s sporting vision and the role he would be expected to play.
“It will depend on the sporting project the club has in mind and on the role I could have under Hansi Flick,” he explained.
The former Bayern Munich forward has been repeatedly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer, while rumours have also surfaced in Italy about a potential late career switch to AC Milan. However, Lewandowski made it clear that his motivation to compete at the highest level remains undiminished.
“I want everything,” he said. “To qualify for the World Cup, to win La Liga and the Champions League. I know I am in the final stage of my career, but I still have very high ambitions.”
Lewandowski’s comments suggest that, despite his age, the striker remains focused on elite competition, leaving the door open for Barcelona to retain him if the right sporting conditions are met.
