Fiorentina are preparing for a significant January overhaul with Fabio Paratici expected to take charge of the club’s transfer strategy in the coming days.
While official confirmation is still pending, it would now come as a major surprise if the former Juventus and Tottenham director does not lead Fiorentina’s winter mercato. Paratici is expected to terminate his relationship with Tottenham shortly before formally committing to the Viola project.
The task awaiting him is a demanding one. Fiorentina’s league position underlines the need for reinforcements across the pitch, with at least one addition expected in every department. However, Paratici is understood to have already outlined a clear recruitment plan, with several priority targets identified.
At the top of the list is Jérémie Boga. The former Sassuolo and Atalanta winger is currently at odds with Nice following an alleged assault by the club’s supporters, making a change of scenery increasingly likely.
A return to Serie A appeals strongly to the Ivorian, and Fiorentina could explore a potential swap deal with the French club. Amir Richardson has publicly expressed his desire to leave Florence in January, with Nice named as his preferred destination, opening the door to negotiations between the two sides.
Strengthening the defence is another key priority. Fiorentina are expected to bring in at least one central defender during the January window.
One option is Diego Coppola, the highly rated 2003-born defender who joined Brighton from Verona last summer. Limited to just over 250 minutes of football this season, Coppola may welcome a return to Italy, particularly in a World Cup year where regular playing time is crucial.
Another name firmly on Paratici’s radar is Radu Drăgușin, a long-time favourite of the director. Paratici sanctioned a €25 million move to Tottenham for the Romanian defender just two years ago, but injuries and limited opportunities in London have stalled his progress. A move back to Serie A could provide the fresh start he is seeking.
In midfield, Fiorentina are monitoring Eric Martel of Köln. The 22-year-old has been a consistent starter in Germany this season but is entering the final 18 months of his contract, which expires in June 2026.
With Köln at risk of losing him on a free transfer, Fiorentina believe they could secure Martel for a reduced fee compared to the €10 million valuation placed on him last summer. Sandi Lovrić is another midfielder admired by Paratici as the Viola look to add energy and balance in the centre of the park.
With Paratici poised to take the reins, Fiorentina are bracing themselves for an ambitious January window that could mark the beginning of what some in Florence are already calling a new Rinascimento Viola.
