The coach of the Netherlands, Ronald Koeman, is disappointed with the attitude towards the national jersey of his team, which was not satisfied with the game after the first two rounds of qualification for the European Championship.
In the first round, the Netherlands suffered a convincing defeat against France with a score of 4:0, while in the second round they defeated Gibraltar (3:0), but even in that match, the selector was not satisfied with the game.
“We have to improve; I’m quite shocked by what I saw,” Koeman said, adding:
“It really has to be better.” We have to pick ourselves up because this was really too little. It was a bad week; a lot of players got sick. We experienced a debacle against France, and we weren’t up to par against Gibraltar either. It will have to get better soon. I have never had such a difficult week as a coach, and I hope it will not happen again”.
The Netherlands host the Nations League finals in June. They play first against Croatia in Rotterdam on June 14, and four days later they go to the final, or the match for third place, against Italy or Spain.
“These are extremely strong opponents, and I think it will be important to have a complete squad,” Koeman said.
