Guardiola: The referee succumbed to pressure from the Anfield stands

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola was disappointed after the 1-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, which ended his team’s 21-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Guardiola pointed out that he pointed out the bad refereeing of Anthony Taylor, as well as the crowd at Anfield, which, in his opinion, was the main factor that caused his team’s goal in the 53rd minute to be disallowed.

“The match was great. Both teams were maximally tense and ready, as was the case in previous meetings. However, we made a mistake, Kevin did not follow the transition, Cancelo lost the duel with Salah, which was enough for us to concede a goal. I’m sure that this goal will not have much effect on cancelo, who will have to learn from this game so that similar mistakes do not happen to him in the future,’ said Guardiola.

When asked by a journalist whether he thinks Foden’s goal was justifiably disallowed, he referred to the criteria of the head referee, Anthony Taylor.

I think that the referee succumbed to the pressure from the stands, it is always difficult to make decisions against the home team in this stadium. Do you know how many similar violations he did not judge? A lot, a lot. This was one of those, but if the criterion is to play harder, which is why Haaland’s duel with Fabinho was characterized as a foul, and many other, perhaps more obvious fouls, were not awarded. Anyway, we lost the game because of our mistake, the very fact that we didn’t score a goal means that we weren’t good enough for three points at Anfield, that’s just the way it is,’ Guardiola finished his presentation.

This was his team’s first defeat of the season and they are now 4 points behind the leading Arsenal.
