Dominic Solanke netted a brace as Tottenham rallied from behind to secure a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The £65 million summer signing doubled his league tally for the season with two goals in a span of just four minutes in the second half, helping Ange Postecoglou’s team rise to seventh in the standings.
Solanke opened the scoring for Spurs with a brilliant finish, delicately lifting the ball over the advancing Emiliano Martinez after receiving a pass from Dejan Kulusevski. He then extended the lead when Richarlison found him in front of goal, effectively sealing the game and thwarting any hopes of a late comeback from Villa.
Morgan Rogers had initially given Villa the lead with the first shot on target in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on Spurs’ failure to clear Lucas Digne’s in-swinging corner.
The visitors had nearly scored just moments earlier, but Amadou Onana’s header struck the post. Villa was well-organized and managed to withstand significant pressure during the first half.
However, their efforts unraveled shortly after the break when Brennan Johnson connected with Son Heung-min’s superb cross from the left, revitalizing the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and setting the stage for Spurs’ comeback.
Substitute James Maddison later added a fourth goal with a spectacular free-kick deep into stoppage time, echoing Spurs’ previous 4-1 victory from behind against West Ham in their last home match.
This win brought Tottenham closer to the top four after last week’s defeat to Crystal Palace, leaving them just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, while fifth-placed Villa missed an opportunity to climb to third.
