Manchester United’s interim head coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy, led his team to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Victor Kristiansen’s own goal, followed by a third from Alejandro Garnacho, secured the three points for United.
During his 250th appearance for Manchester United, Fernandes not only scored a goal but also had a hand in the other two, showcasing his abilities to the new manager, Ruben Amorim, who will take over in the coming days.
Fernandes’ 17th-minute strike, assisted by an elegant flick from Amad Diallo, put United in the lead.
However, Amorim will still need to address defensive issues as Wilfred Ndidi managed to break through their defence, only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Fernandes also contributed to the second goal, heading in Noussair Mazraoui’s cross, which was unfortunately deflected into his own net by Victor Kristiansen.
United dominated the second half and substitute Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory with a superb strike in the 82nd minute, aided by a strong run from Fernandes.
During the international break, Amorim will take charge before United’s trip to Ipswich in two weeks’ time.
On the other hand, Leicester, who are just two points above the relegation zone, will have to regroup during the break before facing Chelsea at home.
