Leicester hold Tottenham at King Power Stadium

The ageless Jamie Vardy marked his Premier League comeback with a goal as newly-promoted Leicester held Tottenham to a draw at King Power Stadium.

Vardy, 37, netted with the hosts’ first on-target attempt, heading in Abdul Fatawu’s cross from close range just before the hour.

The strike cancelled out Pedro Porro’s first-half opener for a Spurs side who had been utterly controlling in the opening 45 minutes and should have been well ahead before Vardy’s effort.

New signing Dominic Solanke, who joined Tottenham for a fee potentially rising to £65m, squandered several early chances to score on his debut, twice directing weak headers at Foxes keeper Mads Hermansen.

Instead, Vardy’s equaliser breathed life into Leicester and they could have snatched all three points as Tottenham struggled to handle their energy and drive.

The former England forward nearly secured the win himself when put through on goal, but his low shot was saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

Neither team could find a winner and, while Leicester earned a vital point in their bid to prove wrong those predicting relegation, Spurs were left frustrated after their first-half supremacy.

Meanwhile, Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was taken off in the second half after a nasty collision left him injured. The 27-year-old received oxygen as he was stretchered off following a five-minute delay for treatment, but manager Ange Postecoglou later said he was “conscious and communicating”.
