Arsenal made it seven wins in a row against Leeds with a dominant 5-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
Captain Martin Ødegaard had the first big chance, shooting just wide before going off injured later in the first half. New signing Viktor Gyökeres also had a good chance to score his first goal for the club but missed the target. Leeds had a brief moment of hope from a corner, but David Raya did well to tip over Struijk’s header.
Arsenal took the lead from a corner when Declan Rice picked out Jurriën Timber, who headed in brilliantly. That made it Arsenal’s 32nd goal from a corner since the start of last season, the most in the Premier League.
Timber then set up Bukayo Saka to score the second just before half-time, with the winger hitting a lovely first-time shot into the net with his weaker foot.
Soon after the break, Riccardo Calafiori played Gyökeres in down the left, and the Swedish striker cut inside and finished at the near post to make it 3-0. Sadly for Arsenal, Saka had to come off injured soon after.
Timber grabbed his second goal of the game from another corner, finishing from close range after a scramble in the box to make it 4-0.
There was time for 15-year-old Max Dowman to come on for his Premier League debut. The youngster made an immediate impact, winning a penalty in stoppage time. Gyökeres calmly scored it to seal his brace and Arsenal’s fifth of the evening.
It was a comfortable win that sends Arsenal top of the table early in the season. Meanwhile, Leeds’ seven-match winning run came to an end in brutal fashion.
