Caicedo's strike thwarts Van Nistelrooy's win hopes as United stay mid-table

Manchester United and Chelsea shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, marking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League debut as interim manager. The Dutch boss witnessed Bruno Fernandes net his first league goal of the season from the spot, continuing his scoring streak for a second consecutive match. However, Moises Caicedo’s brilliant volley levelled the score for the visitors in a contest brimming with determination from both sides.

Moises Caicedo’s spectacular strike helped Chelsea fight back impressively to secure a well-deserved 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. With van Nistelrooy at the helm for his maiden Premier League match as interim United coach before new manager Ruben Amorim takes charge next week, United battled hard against their opponents. The Red Devils thought they had clinched victory when Bruno Fernandes slotted home a penalty on 70 minutes after Rasmus Hojlund was clumsily brought down by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez.

But Caicedo responded with a superb first goal of the season just four minutes later, smashing the ball low into the net after Casemiro’s partial clearance from a corner. Chelsea’s winless league run at Old Trafford since 2013 continues, but Enzo Maresca’s team leapfrog London rivals Arsenal into fourth place on goal difference with 18 points. United remain 13th on 12 points after 10 matches.
