Arsenal throw away lead as Wolves snatch late point

A late goal from Wolves debutant Tom Edozie dealt a big blow to Arsenal’s title hopes, as the bottom side held the league leaders to a 2-2 draw at Molineux.

Arsenal started strongly and took an early lead. Wolves gave Declan Rice too much space, and Bukayo Saka ran into the box and headed in Rice’s cross. Wolves struggled to get out of their own half, and Arsenal nearly scored again, but José Sá made two good saves to deny Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli.

Wolves made a change when Angel Gomes went off and Tolu Arokodare came on, but it didn’t improve them much. They reached half-time without a real effort, with only a late long-range shot from André drifting wide.

Wolves began the second half better, with Adam Armstrong firing just over the bar. However, Arsenal quickly made it 2-0 when Gabriel played a perfect pass through to Piero Hincapié, who finished confidently for his first goal for the club.

Wolves gave themselves hope when Hugo Bueno curled a brilliant shot into the top corner. Arsenal looked like they would hold on, but a late mix-up between David Raya and Gabriel let the ball fall to Edozie, who hit a low shot that went in to make it 2-2.

For Arsenal, it was two points dropped at a crucial time, just before Manchester City’s match and ahead of the North London derby. For Wolves, the draw did little to change their season, but it was a rare positive moment in a difficult campaign.
