Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new head coach of Nottingham Forest following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo late last night.
Postecoglou returns to the Premier League just a few months after being let go by Tottenham Hotspur, despite winning the Europa League and securing a place in this season’s Champions League. His appointment comes after reports by David Ornstein suggested he was the leading candidate to take over at Forest.
Club owner Evangelos Marinakis expressed confidence in the appointment, saying that Forest is bringing in a coach with a strong track record of success. He highlighted Postecoglou’s experience at the top level and his ambition to build something meaningful with the club.
Marinakis stated that, after achieving promotion to the Premier League and gradually building towards European football, the club is now aiming to compete with the best and challenge for trophies. He believes Postecoglou has the necessary experience and mentality to take Forest to the next level.
Postecoglou had a promising first season at Spurs but struggled in his second year, dealing with major injury problems and a lack of consistency. The season ended with the team finishing 17th in the league, which led to his dismissal by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on 7 June. Brentford’s Thomas Frank was appointed as his replacement.
Postecoglou’s first game in charge of Forest will be an away match against Arsenal on Saturday, 13 September at 13:30 CET. The team will also begin their Europa League campaign against Real Betis later this month.
This appointment marks a new chapter for Nottingham Forest as they look to build on recent progress and push for greater success both domestically and in Europe.
