Antonin Kinsky has completed a record-breaking move to Tottenham Hotspur from Slavia Prague, becoming one of the most expensive Czech football exports and setting a new transfer record for goalkeepers from the Czech Republic. The 21-year-old’s transfer fee, reported to be close to €15 million, highlights Tottenham’s faith in his potential and the significance of this milestone for Czech football.
Initially planned for the summer, the transfer was accelerated after Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, suffered an injury. Kinsky’s agent, Viktor Kolar, explained that Tottenham presented a clear development plan to the player and his family, outlining how his attributes perfectly fit Ange Postecoglou’s style of play. This detailed approach convinced Kinsky to make the move during the January window, despite other offers on the table.
Tottenham’s world-class infrastructure and their commitment to nurturing young talent were key factors in the decision. Kolar praised the club’s training facilities, stadium, and technical support, calling them some of the best in the world. The Premier League’s allure and Tottenham’s established reputation for developing players also played a role in sealing the deal.
Kinsky has been inspired by Czech goalkeeping legend Petr Cech, who provided advice on adapting to the demands of English football, including training routines and match preparation. The transfer is a rare example of a Premier League club investing heavily in a goalkeeper, which Kolar attributed to Tottenham’s extensive scouting efforts and unanimous support for Kinsky within the club.
This move represents a major step forward for Kinsky, who now has the opportunity to develop his skills in one of the most competitive leagues in football. It also stands as a landmark moment for Czech football, showcasing the potential of its players on the global stage.
