After 70 years of waiting, Atlas became the champion of Mexico.
In the final match of the playoffs, they were better than Leon, after the penalty shootout.
Leon was in a better situation before the rematch, due to the 3:2 victory, but Atlas managed to “cancel” the triumph of the guests with a goal by Aldo Rocha and to introduce the match into overtime.
Since there was no change in the results in the additional 30 minutes, they went to the penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Camilo Vargas shone on goal, defended two penalties and thus brought the team from Guadalajara the first title after the 1950/51 season.
