AFTER ELIMINATION: The Suns fired their coach

The Phoenix Suns, disappointed by being eliminated from Denver in the semi-finals of the Western Conference, decided on a radical move and fired coach Monty Williams.

It was the second consecutive season in which Phoenix was eliminated in the playoffs.

The Suns thus join the market battle for the head NBA coach, and the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors are currently looking for a head of coaching staff.

“Monty was one of the key people for our success in the previous four years. We are filled with gratitude for all that Monty has contributed to our organization,” said Suns general manager James Jones.

Fifty-one-year-old Monty Williams has been at the head of the team from Arizona since 2019, when he succeeded Igor Kokoškov, the former coach of Slovenia and Serbia, on the bench of this team.

In that period, the coach from Virginia had notable results, and Phoenix had the best season in 2021, when they reached the finals, in which they lost to Milwaukee.
