The Phoenix Suns are looking for a new coach after firing Monty Williams.
After being eliminated from Denver in the semi-finals of the West playoffs, the club terminated cooperation with Williams, and a Serb could replace him on the bench!
Namely, Adrien Wojnarowski, the most famous NBA insider, states that the Suns are looking for a coach, and among the candidates are Jordi Fernandez, an assistant in the Sacramento Kings, Charles Lee from Milwaukee, and Darko Rajakovic, an assistant in Memphis.
Rajakovic started his coaching career in Borac from Cacak when he was only 16 years old. After that, he was a coach in the younger categories of Crvena Zvezda.
In 2014, Rajakovic took over the Tulsa Sixty-Sixers team and thus became the first coach to lead a team in the NBA Development League that was born outside of North America.
In the summer of 2014, he became an assistant coach at Oklahoma, where he stayed for five years.
Rajakovic is well acquainted with the work system in the Suns because, in the 2019/20 season, he was the team’s assistant coach under Monty Williams.
From 2020, he performs the same role in the Memphis Grizzlies, and if Phoenix “cuts” and decides on him, he will become only the second head coach of an NBA team of Serbian origin after Igor Kokoskov.
