CSKA faced a real exodus of players due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Daniel Hacket and Tornike Shengelia have already found a foothold in Virtus, and Gabriel Ife Lundberg has officially left the club.
The Danish basketball player has been one of CSKA’s best players since arriving from Zastal Zielona Góra last season. However, like many foreigners, he decided to leave Russia.
Unlike Heckett and Shengelia, Lundberg found a foothold in the NBA league in the ranks of the vice-champions of the Phoenix team!
The 27-year-old playmaker made history in that way, as he became the first Danish player in the history of the strongest basketball league in the world!
He agreed on a two-way contract with Phoenix and thus filled the last place in the Suns team for this season.
CSKA had to somehow make up for Lundberg’s 12.6 points on average per game in the VTB United League and 9.1 in the Euroleague, which is why a replacement was hired.
As the Russian giant officially announced, the Yenisei player – Casper Ware – has been brought in! This American signed a contract with the “Army” until the end of the season.
– In the current situation, the club is doing its best to see how we can react. We found a common language with Casper who wanted to play for us and already has experience playing in the VTB United League. We needed reinforcements in the place of the play (due to the departures of Heckett and Lundberg, ed.), Since we only have Komenko and Yukhov, who did a great job there. I want to welcome Ware, and we will do everything to adapt him to the team as soon as possible – Dimitris Itoudis pointed out.
Ware himself is very pleased to come to Moscow.
– First of all, I would like to thank the Yenisei, the club, the coach, the management and the fans for welcoming me with open arms. Everyone treated me great and I only have words of love for them. Now I am very happy to have the opportunity to play for a club like CSKA, which is full of history. I can’t wait to start working – the 32-year-old player pointed out.
Ware had a very solid season in the ranks of the Yenisei, for which he averaged 16.3 points per game with 3.8 assists in the VTB United League.
