One of the biggest revelations of the World Cup in basketball, the Latvian Arturs Žagars suffered a serious eye injury during the Lithuanian league match between Lietkabelis and Vols from Vilnius.
In overtime, Žagars started to drive towards the basket, but he bent his left leg at an awkward angle and apparently suffered a knee injury.
The 23-year-old guard remained on the floor in pain for several minutes and left the field with the help of the Wolves medical staff, unable to support himself on his left leg. Žagars otherwise had a great match with 21 points in 22 minutes of the game.
Let us remind you that during the World Cup, Žagars was one of the most deserving players for the Latvians’ games beyond all expectations. He averaged 12.4 points with 2.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game in 25 minutes of play.
The Latvians finished the competition as the fifth-placed team.
After excellent games, he signed a three-year contract with Fenerbahçe, who immediately sent him to Wolves until the end of the season.
