The German basketball team will be one of the participants in the upcoming World Cup. However, disagreements within the team are rocking this team, specifically the disagreements between Dennis Schroder and Maxi Kleber.
The center of Dallas, before the last European Championship, which was played in Germany, refused to respond to the invitation of his national team.
This decision did not sit well with the organizer of the “Pancera” game and the biggest star of German basketball at the moment.
“I was thinking, ‘OK, what kind of game does he want to improve?’ In the NBA, when you’re good at something, you stick with it. It wouldn’t make sense for a big center to start running the ball all of a sudden. He knows his game and he knows what his role is,” Schrüder said, then added.
“Of course, I accepted his decision, but it was a little difficult to respect it. If he had some other reason – a contract or a desire to play longer – it would be completely fine with me”.
This summer, Kleber again decided not to play for Germany, citing his teammate’s attack as the reason.
“All communication from my side with all relevant people was done in an honest, respectful manner. I enjoyed the success of the team and was proud of what they achieved. I started this summer motivated to join the WC. “However, some unfortunate and inappropriate public comments about me made it clear to me that I was not unconditionally accepted in the national team,” said the Dallas player.
Nevertheless, at the end of the whole saga, Dennis Schroder decided to issue an apology.
“I would like to apologize to Max Kleber and his family for my statements and the discomfort I caused. It was never my intention to embarrass anyone or upset anyone on the team. My intention was only to stand up for the team and to make it clear that I would do everything for my team”, said Schrüder, then added.
“All that was nothing personal against Maxi Kleber on my part. Everyone who knows me knows that I am a direct person. I always assume that the person I’m talking to understands what I’m trying to say, but that’s not always the case. I still appreciate him, I respect his career and I hope he will accept my apology.”
