Free agent Joe Johnson is returning to the NBA at the age of 40, after a three-year break. He signs a contract with the Boston Celtics for 10 days.
Johnson is expected to play in the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. He last played in the final of the Western Conference for the Houston Rockets in 2018.
The Celtics have serious problems with the coronavirus (seven players under the security protocol of the NBA league). They were forced to sign the veteran CJ Miles also for ten days in order to have a sufficient number of players on Tuesday, when they were defeated by Philadelphia (108: 103).
The deal reunited Johnson with the team that drafted him in 2001. He played half the season for the Celtics that season before being drafted to the Phoenix Suns.
Johnson is a seven-time All-Star and averaged 16 points in 1,276 games for the Suns, Atalanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.
