Zenit basketball players celebrated at home against Efes 76:67 in the 23rd round of the Euroleague. Serbian basketball player Vasilije Micic shone in this match, but that was not enough for his team to win.
The home team broke the game in the third quarter when they reached a double-digit advantage. From the very beginning until the third section, the teams were on one possession of the difference. Zenit basketball players won the third quarter 15: 6 (52:42).
The team from St. Petersburg maintained the acquired advantage until the end of the match and thus registered a new victory.
In the winning team, the best was Alex Poythress with 21 points and nine rebounds. He was followed by Billy Beron and Jordan Mickey with 11 points each. Vasilije Micic was in the lead with the Efes team with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Krunoslav Simon finished the match with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Turkish team suffered its 11th defeat, and with ten victories, it is on the edge of the playoff zone, more precisely in the eighth place in the Euroleague. Until the end, they will have to fight hard in order to reach the placement in the post-season.
On the other hand, Zenit continues to provide excellent games, and if they continue to win, they will provide the advantage of the home field in the continuation of the competition. They have recorded 13 wins and seven defeats so far and are in fourth place in the elite competition.
In the next round, Efes will meet CSKA in Istanbul, while Zenit will visit Basconia the day before.
