On this day in 2011, Derrick Rose received the award for the best player in the NBA league.
As a former student of the University of Memphis and the famous coach John Calipari, Rose was drafted as the first pick in the Chicago Bulls in 2008.
In the first year, as a Bulls player, he was named Rookie of the Year, and already in the second season, he participated in the Allstar game.
He finished the 2010/11 season as the best player in the NBA League, and since he was only 22 years and 6 months old at the time, he became the youngest player to receive the award.
The previous record holder was Wes Anseld at the age of 23 years and 2 months, and that was his hand year!
The Bulls had 62 wins and 20 losses that year, and Rose averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4 rebounds on average, becoming the Chicago Bulls’ second MVP, first after Michael Jordan.
The following season, he suffered a severe knee injury that turned one of the most promising careers in the history of the NBA League into an average one. He never played at the MVP level again. He is currently playing for the New York Knicks and still reminds of the time when he was the best that American basketball has to offer.
