Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club delivered a commanding and unforgettable performance at the 2025 National Athletics Championships held at the Marsa Sports Grounds. With a total haul of 65 medals, 35 gold, 16 silver, and 14 bronze, Pembroke established a decisive lead over all competing clubs, confirming their place at the summit of Maltese athletics.
The athletes, wearing the club’s signature red, dominated across every discipline: sprints, middle-distance events, jumping, throwing, and relays. Their performance reflected not only individual excellence but also a deep squad capable of consistent results across multiple age groups and events.
Gina McNamara was among the standout athletes, setting a new championship record in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:05.41. She went on to win the 1500m and played a crucial role in the victorious Mixed 4×400m relay team.
Two national age-group records were also broken. Dario Mangion (M35) clocked 4:03.30 in the 1500m, while Mark Herrera (M40) posted 4:12.03 in the same event before going on to claim another gold in the 5000m.
In the U18 Mixed 4×400m relay, a new benchmark was set by the team of Roberto Filletti, Faith Grixti, Alessandro Desira, and Chanelle Bezzina, with a time of 4:05.75—considered the fastest ever recorded locally in this category.

Bradley Mifsud was a dominant figure in the throws, winning three gold medals in the discus (49.55m), javelin (51.80m), and shot put (13.31m).
Rachela Pace completed a double victory in the long jump (5.94m) and triple jump (12.93m), showing her technical strength and consistency.
In the U18 category, Nick Bonett secured gold in the 200m and 400m, silver in the 100m, and added two relay wins to his medal count. Fellow U18 athlete Jorrin Busuttil impressed with gold in the 100m, silver in the 400m, bronze in the Open 200m, and two more relay victories.
Janet Richard maintained her reputation as one of Malta’s leading 400m specialists with a gold-medal time of 55.14s. She was also instrumental in helping Pembroke secure relay wins.
Veteran athlete Mark Herrera added two golds in the M40 category, showing his enduring class in the 1500m and 5000m.
Pembroke achieved a rare feat by winning every relay contested during the championships. Their times were commanding:
- Women’s 4×100m – 47.32s
- Men’s 4×100m – 43.51s
