The Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Malta Foundation, marking a significant step in youth development within Malta’s aquatic sports community.
Through this agreement, the ASA officially endorses the internationally recognized Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, encouraging young athletes across affiliated clubs to participate in the prestigious programme.
Aimed at individuals aged 14 to 24, the Award fosters essential life skills, resilience, and leadership through non-formal education. Many young athletes may already be fulfilling key components of the programme—such as Physical Activity through their training and Skills Development through discipline, time management, and technical expertise gained within their club environment.
Additionally, the Voluntary Service section of the Award provides an opportunity for athletes to give back to their clubs and communities. This could include mentoring younger members, assisting with coaching, or supporting club activities, further reinforcing values such as responsibility, empathy, and teamwork.
The Award is formally accredited in Malta, with the Bronze level aligned to MQF Level 2 and the Silver level to MQF Level 3, offering participants national recognition for their personal development.
The ASA encourages all affiliated clubs to explore ways to integrate and support the programme within their environments. This initiative represents a unique opportunity to enhance the growth of young athletes—both in and out of the water.
