BNF U15 and U17 Leagues Review: Hamrun ease past Fgura, Mosta return to winning ways

The BNF U15 and U17 Leagues continued over the weekend, delivering thrilling encounters, late drama, and intense action across the divisions. No matches took place in League C of the U15 and U17 sections.

U15 League A – Phase 2 Matchday 4

Hibernians FC 4-1 Pietà Hotspurs FC

League leaders Hibernians FC bounced back from their previous setback with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Pietà Hotspurs FC.

The Paolites asserted their dominance early on, and their persistent pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Kaden Camilleri found the net, beating Pietà goalkeeper Dayle Galea. However, Pietà responded just before halftime, with Giorgio Cristauro breaking free from Hibernians’ defense to slot home an equalizer past Noah Mulholland in the 40th minute.

Hibernians, determined to maintain their unbeaten run, regained control in the second half. A Benji Schranz own goal restored their lead before Aiden Tonna extended the advantage in the 75th minute. Kirsten Camilleri sealed the win with a goal in the 80th minute, securing a dominant result and bringing their tally to 37 points from 13 games.

Ramires Dingli and Zachary Arab Chetcuti scored within the first five minutes, putting Balzan in control. Floriana, however, responded well, with Matthias Sciberras pulling one back in the 17th minute before converting a penalty three minutes later to equalize.

After halftime, Balzan reasserted themselves. Zean Mansour restored their lead in the 56th minute, and Arab Chetcuti completed his brace in the 64th minute to seal the victory. The win saw Balzan leapfrog both Floriana and Gozo FC, who were held to a goalless draw against Rabat Ajax FC.

U15 League D – Phase 1 Matchday 11

Siggiewi FC 1-0 Birzebbuga Windmill FC Nursery

Siggiewi FC secured a crucial 1-0 win over Birzebbuga, reducing the gap between the top teams in League D.

John Pace Ross scored the decisive goal in the 24th minute, and despite both teams creating chances, the score remained unchanged. The victory puts Siggiewi just one point behind Birzebbuga.

Zebbug Rangers FC 3-2 Santa Venera Lightnings FC

Pietà Hotspurs FC 2-0 Valletta FC

Pietà Hotspurs maintained their top position with a 2-0 victory over Valletta FC.

Kayden Zerafa broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, and despite Valletta’s resilience, Dean Gatt Tonna secured the win in the 79th minute. Both Pietà and Mosta now sit on 31 points, with Pietà ahead on goal difference.

U17 League B – Phase 2 Matchday 5

Zabbar St Patrick FC 1-0 San Gwann FC

In a top-of-the-table clash, Zabbar St Patrick FC edged past San Gwann FC with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Isaak Dingli scored the only goal in the 57th minute in a match filled with tension and yellow cards. Late red cards for Gilbert Pace (Zabbar) and Jerome Grima (San Gwann) further intensified the drama, but Zabbar held on to secure top spot.

Sliema Wanderers FC 6-0 Gozo FC

Sliema Wanderers moved level on points with Zabbar after thrashing Gozo FC 6-0. Goals from Jamie Naudi, Zaki Hathout, Goncalo Heider Kelleher, Jake Sacco, Neil Cassar, and Jean Formosa sealed a dominant win.

U17 League D – Phase 1 Matchday 10

Swieqi United 5-1 Msida St Joseph FC

Swieqi United continued their fine form with a commanding 5-1 win over Msida St Joseph FC.

Goals from Kain Mamo, Matteo Cassar, an own goal by Dejan Cassar, Andrej Pejoski, and Timmy Sciberras secured the victory, with Msida’s Illia Zhuchynin scoring a consolation goal.

West FC 3-2 Gharghur FC

West FC relied on a stoppage-time goal to edge past Gharghur FC in a thrilling match.

Leading 2-0 with goals from Michele Tonna and Julian Tabone, West saw Gharghur stage a comeback with strikes from Nikolai Zammit and Diyan Camilleri. A red card for Nathan Sciberras complicated matters, but Matthias Grixti struck in the 95th minute to clinch the win for West.
