The legendary American athlete Allyson Felix ended her career by winning her 19th medal at the world championships in Eugene, a bronze in the 4×400 metres relay.
With this 19th medal, this 36-year-old American only improved the record she already held. When 11 more Olympic medals are added to that, she finished her career with 30 medals from the biggest sports competitions.
– I felt love. I felt joy as I ran. It was special to be able to run my last race in front of my own crowd. My daughter was in the stands. I will keep this evening in my heart forever – said Felix.
The relay team of the United States of America finished third, the Dominican Republic was first (3:09.82), and the Netherlands was second (3:09.90).
The American women finished the race in three minutes and 10.16 seconds.
Felix ran her last 400 meters in 50.15 seconds, which is not even close to the 47.72 seconds she ran at the 2015 World Championships, but that did not spoil the impression.
– It is obvious that I am not at the peak of my career, but the fact that I finish it here, with my daughter in the stands and that I can share this moment with her, means a lot – Felix said.
