ZVEREV: I played against Novak in Cincinnati, against Carlos here

German Alexander Zverev points out that since the second set against Carlos Alcaraz, he had a problem with an injury again.

Namely, Zverev was defeated against the young Spaniard after three sets in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

“I was in the match in the first set. I could have reached the break, it could have gone the other way. Then in the second set, I felt something in my left knee. I couldn’t serve harder. I needed a good serve against him, otherwise, it’s difficult. I think my biggest weapon was kind of taken away from me after the first set. It’s hard to compete if you don’t have that,” Zverev pointed out.

“I played against Novak in Cincinnati, against Carlos here. I think they are on a similar level. There are some things that Novak does better, there are some things that Carlos does better. I think they are at their level right now. Yes, the other guys have to ‘catch’ them. It’s simple,” added the German.

In the first set, Zverev had two chances to break, but he did not realize it.

“If I remember correctly, I think we had an exchange and I missed the backhand parallel. I don’t think I should have done that, because I got a lot of trades by that point. I don’t remember the other break point, to be honest. It’s hard to say, there were several important moments in this match. Maybe I made the wrong decision, the wrong shot… Even though I lost the first set, I thought this would be an uncertain match. I thought it would be fun. I think in the first game of the second set I felt something was wrong. I didn’t give up, but there’s very little you can do against Carlos then,” Zverev concluded.
