Novak Djokovic revealed that he is still not thinking about retiring.
At the event that was organized at the Puente Romano club in Marbella, Djokovic spoke and talked about his goals in the coming period.
“During my career, I was very happy to achieve many things and win the biggest trophies in this sport. I still allow myself to dream big. I want to win every tournament I play in. My biggest goal is grand slams and masters titles, I also like to play for my country because it brings out the most beautiful emotions in me. I’m continuing,” Djokovic began.
He highlighted health as the biggest goal.
“The biggest goal in the next season and the ones that come after, because I don’t know how much longer I will play, is to stay healthy and play at the highest level. I don’t see myself as a professional who plays without being one of the favorites to win a Grand Slam title or one of the top spots. I don’t see myself as 25th in the world and playing at an average level. I want to play at the highest level, that’s something I demand of myself and that’s what my team asks of me,” added Đoković.
He is aware of the age he is in, but he points out that he never trains harder.
“I work like everyone else on the ATP Tour, maybe even harder than others, because I know that 35 years old is not the same as 25 or 15. You have to adapt to the age difference and deal with young people who are eager to succeed, motivated and very strong. I’m still here and I feel that I’m young like them.”
“This season has been very challenging for me on many levels. It started the way I didn’t expect, I haven’t experienced anything like that before, so it took me a few months to find balance on the court mentally, physically and emotionally, so that I would be able to play tennis the way I want. I didn’t have a full season, there were ups and downs, there were warm-ups, preparations, and then rest, so I’m glad that I played tennis at a high level for the last few months of the year, especially indoors,” says Djokovic.
“The form couldn’t have been better, it came at the right time because I wanted to end the season in style and carry that momentum to the next year. I feel that I haven’t exhausted myself this year like in some previous seasons, maybe because I haven’t played much, so I’m excited about the start of the new season with the desire to achieve a good, positive result,” concluded Novak Djokovic.
