Former director of the Australian Open – Paul McNamee, defended Novak Djokovic, who is negatively reported in the foreign media.
He is surprised how much is said badly about the Serbian tennis player in the media and on social networks.
– It’s sad, but wherever I go, whether it’s golf, tennis, anything, I come across people who talk to me about Novak and who want me to join them in his shooting – says McNamee and adds:
– I tell them right away, don’t say a bad word about him in my presence, because he is my friend. However, in the end, they respect its authenticity – the former tennis player said via Twitter.
During January, McNami could not believe how Djokovic was treated by the Australian authorities and the local media.
– He is the only player in the history of the Australian Open who I know has had his visa revoked. Players need to know with great clarity that if they come to events, they will not face this kind of problem upon arrival. This is a problem we have seen in the last two years and the victim is the first player in the world – said the former tennis player at the time when Novak was still at the top of the ATP list.
McNamee then added that Novak only respected the rules and what was asked of him to come to play, and reiterated that “he was not treated correctly” and that “he did not write the rules and deserves to be on the field”, but that, unfortunately, did not happen, and the title, as we know, was won by Novak’s great rival, Rafael Nadal.
