Russian Daniil Medvedev has already pointed out that he will not cry for the first place on the ATP list because it is not a priority in his career.
-” Being number one in the world was more of a dream than an ambition. Until I was 22-23 years old, I didn’t think about first place. I saw those guys, Roger, Rafa, Novak, and I said to myself: This is not for me. However, when you get to the top five, you start thinking about it. And of course, when I won my first Grand Slam in New York, I wasn’t that far from Novak. Being number one is like winning the Grand Slam trophy. This is what you have done and no one can take that away from you. I won the US Open, I have the trophy in my house and it will stay there forever unless someone steals it. The same is the case with the title of the first racket of the world,” says Medvedev and adds:
Medvedev admitted that he was fascinated by the achievement of Carlos Alcaraz.
-” He is the youngest number one in the world in history, and that says a lot because there have been many great champions in the history of tennis. What he has been doing since the beginning of his career is a true madness. It’s incredible. The guy is 19 years old. He shows an incredible level of tennis. And he knows it. Congratulations to Carlos. I really like it. He’s a good guy, we talk often. I haven’t had a chance to congratulate him in person, but I will do so in the near future.” – concluded Daniil.
