Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, after winning the Masters tournament in Paris, is facing a new difficult challenge.
The first racket in the world will try to win the final tournament of the Masters series for the first time since 2015.
From this season, the tournament will be played Turin, and Novak Djokovic is in the group that includes Stefanos Cicipas, Andrej Rublev, and Kasper Rudd.
One of the topics before the tournament in Italy is finances. There were indications that the prize fund would reach 14 million, but something like that would not be possible.
The Serbian tennis player pointed out that there are no problems with the fact that the prize for the winner is not higher.
- I wasn’t aware of that information, really. However, I understand that the logical conclusion is that we have had these covid conditions in the last year and a half, which is a great challenge for ATP and tournaments. We got that as a justification for reducing the prize funds. However, we now see that almost full capacity in the stands is allowed in most tournaments, so that changes things. I recently heard that Paris will do differently because they had one hundred percent capacity, so they will increase the awards and return to the normal level – said Novak Djokovic and then added:
- It’s a great sign, not every tournament does that, but it would be great for others to follow that example because after all, many players depend on the money they earn in tournaments. I know that the fight is at all levels, with players, tournaments, at all levels, but as we slowly return to the more normal situation, which was before covid, I feel that the rewards should grow. I’m not worried about anything special for the awards, especially not for the ATP finals, because this is one of the biggest products on the ATP market.
Can Novak Djokovic add another tournament to his rich collection?
