A precedent at the Olympics games - are the rule changing because of Nadal?

Rafael Nadal has announced his retirement soon and many thought that the Olympics could be the last competition in which he will compete, but his performance at the biggest sports competition is in question.

Namely, the Spanish tennis player did not defend the colors of his country in the two previous Davis Cups, and the appearance in the mentioned competition is a prerequisite for the appearance at the OI.

As is usually the case, supporters of Rafael Nadal are demanding a change in the rules, and among them is the president of the German Tennis Association Dietlof von Arnim.

“These are the rules, but why are we making the situation difficult and creating a problem for the players? Rafa wants to play in Paris, let’s make it easier for him, we have to change the rules. I’m not in the Olympics Committee, but it should be discussed,” said Von Arnim and added:

“If there is a possibility, I would do it, I would also add that the players get points from the Olympic Games. We should look at how to help them, and not put obstacles in their way. Let them play, we should support them.”

Let us remind you that Nadal won the Davis Cup five times with Spain, while he was also decorated with a gold medal from the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
