Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner had an excellent performance at Wimbledon, and he was close to “taking the crown” off Novak Djokovic. However, even 2-0 in the sets was not enough for him to win.
Three weeks after their duel, Sinner decided to “open his soul”.
- Every time I lose a match, I don’t sleep. After the match, I immediately watched the highlights, the recordings. I want to learn right away. I take a lot of positive things from Wimbledon. I gained experience on grass and played against Novak Djokovic on the Center Court. I played a good match. I regret not pressing him in the third and fourth set. I couldn’t do anything in the fifth set. I had a beast on the other side of the field. He deserved to win – said Sinner.
The Italian believes that if by any chance he managed to eliminate Novak, even the title at Wimbledon would not be out of reach.
- It’s hard to say. I played well… I would have had a chance. What I achieved gave me confidence, after the injury and bad luck I had this season – added the Italian.
Siner is currently the best Italian tennis player on the ATP list, but he points out that this is not a true “mirror of things”.
- Being the best Italian on the list means absolutely nothing. Berrettini was unlucky this year, Musetti is in good shape, he won Hamburg. Italy has many diverse players, we are strong. I don’t think Berrettini and I have a rivalry. We never played. It is true that Berrettini has more experience, he has won more titles, he has been in the top 10 longer than me. I am sure he will return to the highest level. We don’t know each other well, but we have good relations – Sinner concluded.
