THE NEW KING OF WIMBLEDON IS ALCARAZ: "I wrote history in the tournament, played the final against a legend"

Carlos Alcaraz is the new champion of Wimbledon, after he defeated the undisputed Novak Djokovic in the final of five sets played.

After the match, he conveyed his impressions but also talked about Djokovic.

“The dream came true. I’ve said it before, it’s great to win, but even if I’d lost I’d be very proud of myself. I wrote history in the tournament, played in the final against a legend, as far as I’m concerned it’s unbelievable. It’s a dream come true to play on stages like this, it all happened very quickly and I’m very proud of myself, but also of the team I have, of the work we put in every day to have something like this,” began Alcaraz.

He mentioned the last game, and then talked about Novak.

“After the first set, I thought, ‘Carlos, you have to raise your level of play a bit.’ Because of everyone. I have to congratulate Novak, it’s incredible to play against him, what can I say about him. You inspire me a lot, because of you I started playing tennis. 36 is the new 26. You did it.”

Great progress on grass is visible in the Spaniard compared to the previous season.

“I fell in love with weed. In such a short period of only four tournaments on grass, the dream came true, I remember my work very much, with the effort to enter the season on grass. I’m really proud.” Carlos Alcaraz concluded.
